eLearning Program

by Steven Cahill

A couple of months ago I received a grant to produce my units of competency in an eLearning program, which I have been developing since the beginning of the year. It certainly has been a learning curve.

I’ve studied as an off-campus student for well over a year now so have become accustomed to being a student via eLearning, but never the teacher. It’s a lot more to take in than I first anticipated, not just preparation of material (ensuring sufficient information is given per session), but also the administration back-end ensuring everything meets critical standards of eLearning.

I had just finished a unit on “Virtual Communities” which I found to be an immense help in establishing how adaptive the Internet is to arenas of the social sphere which I am applying to the education of my learners.

The project hopefully <fingers crossed> will be finished December this year; from the looks of my project management, I’m well ahead of my deadlines.

elearning Forum

by Steven Cahill

Today I attended an elearning forum.

I’ve had a fair amount of experience in an elearning environment, unfortunantly from a students perspective.

However, this year I will be teaching material in an elearning environment and todays forum on elearning helped pave a way in understanding different aspects of elearning, such as motivation and not just with the students but also with other teachers who may be reluctant in moving towards an elearning method of learning.

It was interesting also to see what others would perceive as mediums for elearning; Second Life popped up. I’ve done discussions in Second Life through my uni units, however, that is as far as it goes.

Next week I will be attending an elearning workshop where we will workshop on programs such as sharepoint.

Nigerian scamers

by Steven Cahill

There are certainly some naive people out there that consume the Internet (good idea to introduce the concept of a Internet License); but people who fall for the lure of Nigerian scammers certainly take the cake for the stupid of the stupid; ashamedly there are a fair amount of Aussies in that category.

NIGERIAN authorities are presently prosecuting nine “advance fee” fraudsters who conned unsuspecting Queenslanders, but millions of dollars continue to flow out to African scammers, Queensland Police warns.

“Unfortunately, we see more more money leaving our shores every day,” Detective Superintendent Brian Hay, operations commander of the Fraud and Corporate Crime Group, said.

“Just last week, I was on the phone to a person who had sent $585,000 believing he was involved with a pipeline business venture with Nigerian government officials.

Full Article: Aussies lose millions to Nigerian scams

You constantly hear stories of scams in the news all the time; yet there are those who continue to fall for it.  You would think that the word Nigerian in any business venture would not send off alarms.
